Problems with router

[link to this post]

wonder if anyone can help

i have a laptop using xp and a pc using vista premium connecting wirelessly to my router.

now up until yesterday, both were working fine, connecting ok without any problems, then all of a sudden, they can see the router but unable to connect to it

have changed none of the settings, if i plug the laptop into the router via network cable, can connect ok, have reinstalled the network card for laptop and usb adapter for pc but still, able to see router but cant connect to it

anyone have any ideas why, i have another router from sky and get the same problem with that also

any help would be appreciated

Well, other than checking your security settings on the wireless side, I don't know what else to suggest. Try turning security off, and see if you can connect.

I had exactly the same problem. In the end I gave up and moved the router closer, so now I am plugged into LAN. I even purchased a new USB 'netgear' adapter. The old one was belkin, so i thought having the same brand would help.......i was wrong!

I have exactly the same problem. It is a known issue with the DG834GT's. You need to upgrade the firmware to the latest version. Have a look at www.skyuser.co.uk for a tutorial, but the firmware they advertise is out of date, and id recommend downloading it from the Netgear website.

I tried installing from the Netgear site, but it would not install. I have no idea why.

Ahh V1.02.28 is the official Sky Firmware, the ones in the tutorial are the Netgear ones, ie non Sky Firmware.
