Question about joining Sky (after Sept 30?)

[link to this post]

Hey guys,

As far as I know, our contract with Pipex Homecall began on Sept 25, from reading bills, though that *may* have been just the 'phone'. We have a funny feeling the b/band was a week or so later due to some cockup (cant quite recall now - old memory doesn't serve me well these days).

Anyway - Sky are offering me broadband for 5/month with Connect - and switching us into Mid whenever we're LLU'd. Do you know if this offer will remain after Sept 30? I see the current offer is <Sept 30, so I'm curious to what things may be like after?

To note; say I get it in 1 month, and my exchange is LLU'd 2 months later, shall I expect a difference in speed/service with the transfer to LLU?

Ideas?

Matt

No-one other than Sky can predict their future pricing plans, but generally Sky only review prices once a year, and then it usually only by inflation (or thereabouts). Why not phone Sky sales and ask them whether they can guarantee a free transfer in the future ?

You will notice a speed difference with LLU, but how much difference will depend on how far you are from the exchange. Sky LLU doesn't work like ordinary ADSL - there is no "line profile" as such, and generally what your line syncs at is what you get (minus the usual overheads, of course). If you normally get close to 8000kbps on ADSL, you will have no trouble getting 13000kbps or higher on Sky Max.

You got that wrong. Sky LLU IS ordinary ADSL. It's the BT version that's a mutant alien version.

There you go

Sorry to butt in here and ask a question of you without actually giving you any anwers MDTyke. But how where you offered this? (LLU price without actual LLU). Does the Sky online checker make the offer or did you get the offer by phoning Sky up?
