Wireless keeps failing

[link to this post]

If i try and connect XP wireless fails, gives itself a useless 169.* ip address so no internet

I turn off the Netgear, turn it back on

same error

do it a few times more.

Then the netgear wireless behaves and works correctly and works.

Replacing this Netgear lump of turd aside, how can I fix this?

Does it work better if you get closer to the router ?

Have you tried updating the wireless drivers on the pc/laptop? Might just be that they are poor drivers.

The laptop wireless works on another wlan fine and it's on latest drivers.

Quite an annoying problem really.

Try turning UPNP off in the router settings. I was having similar problems and that has solved it for 2 reboots so far...

You could also try setting up static IPs and all that
