How accurate is their speed estimation?

Hi,

I'm about to move to a new flat and am looking to sign up to sky max.

I've plugged my newly provisioned BT number into their checker (http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skyproducts/broadband/pricesandoptions/dsl) and it reports a likely *maximum* speed of 5.5Mb.

Are they very conservative with this estimate? or is that actually what I'm likely to see?

If the above is true I may as well stay on adsl1 and go or a month to month contract ISP.

I'll be on the Leith exchange in Edinburgh.

Thanks for any help - I obviously don't have adsl on the line at the moment so theres no way for me to check line stats (?)

I think the estimate is a little conservative. I get about 6000kpbs sync with Sky Max, when I used to get about 4700kbps with Zen on the same line. However, what you must not forget is that because Sky LLU doesn't use BT's kit, you don't have all this "line profile" stuff, so what you sync at is what you get at any given moment.

BT say my line will support 2-3Mb but I currently have a stable ync of just over 7Mb so I would say they tend to be conservative.
