Thinking of joining sky.

[link to this post]

Hi folks I'm thinking of joining sky. At the moment i'm with Aquiss (entanet) on their office 90 package. I get a great allowance of 90 gig on peak 330 offpeak. A few questions. Sky have a fare usage policy on their 10 unlimited product. What do they class as fair usage? Since being with Aquiss I've never went over 100 gigs. If I downloaded 100gigs with sky would it cause any problems? Also I do alot of online gaming. How are they for online gaming. Lastly. If I join and I find its not suitable for me can I leave with out any problems?

Cheers.

PS I nearly forgot. I live 500 meters from my exchange. At the moment I get full 8meg do you think I'll get anywhere near the 16 meg advertised?

Unofficially 250gb

Not one reported case of people been told off for exceeding it. Just leave some bandwidth for us who don't download Linux Distros

That's ok buddy. I only reached about 100gigs once or twice. Normally only use between 40-70gigs.

Didn't answer all your questions.

If you know your attenuation, try this

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/tools/Adsl2Checker.php

As for pings:

As for not happy, you have 8 days from connection to cancel without penalty if not happy.

Thanks mate your first link says:

ADSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 16mb to 24mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

This is a rough guide only, and provides results of up to 24mb with the data made available to us. This is purely for indication only and should not be classed as the Speed that you will receive on any ISP's product. Due to the fact that your Telephone Line does not run in a straight line from the Exchange, the Distance from Exchange figures, are interpreted as if your Telephone Line is that exact length. In reality, it is highly unlikely that this is the case.

That's with a downstream Attenuation of 18.0 db. And its nice to see sky will change things so I can get good pings too. One other thing. Is the connection to sky defaulted with interleaving on and is it possible to get it turned off as I did with max?

Interleaved

They will not change it to Fastpath. Just lower your pings by the Max Delay.
