Is sky worth joining as I am currently with Nildram who got taken over by tiscali earlier this year. I pay 26 for a 50gb monthly limit and I never have issues with ping, connection or anything. So in brief are sky ok for gamers and what about throttling back,,,does this happen?

thanx in adv

26 will get you 6 channel packages ,free phone evening and weekends and 8mb broadband with a 40GB allowance.
You need to be on a unbundled exchange, if you are not on one you will be offered connect for 17 this changes to 5 when they are likely to be doing the work in the next 6 months.
Gaming was a sore point a couple of months ago but they have sorted the pings out,as for throttling i believe there is none but there is a FUP on the "Max" package ,rumour has it you will not hear anything if you keep below 250 GB.

Hi, I'm on Virgin Media at present and noticed the 5 a month package.
My IP profile is 6.5Mb and sync at 7146kb.
What speed would I likely get on the 8Mb package and could you tell be what equipment they supply you with; USB modem, ethenet router, wireless router, etc.?
I'm pretty sure that the exchange has not been LLU'd yet, and doubt it will be in the near future so would I have to wait; otherwise I would be paying the same as the VM charges.
Thanks,
Mike.

Hi Mike

You would be on BT Max badged product if you cannot get LLU, which afaik is similar to Virgin ADSL, therefore you should get exactly the same speed.

Wireless router, with 4 ports.

However if your exchange is not LLUed you may have to pay the £17.00 for the Connect.

It is usually £5 if your exchange is due to be LLU'ed within 6 months. You may be better checking on Sky's website or ringing to check.

Thanks for the info chaps.

No point in changing if it's going to be the same price; but if my exchange gets LLU'd may well be worth it.

If you can get connect for 5 the total is 26 per month, you are getting Sky TV installed and 6 channel packages for nothing, its not really the same price.

Hi Maxping.
Agreed, but I can only get the package you suggest if my exchange is LLU'd.
I already have the Sky TV package but would have to pay another 17.99 on a non-LLU'd exchange. That's how I see it; please correct me if I'm wrong.

Use the post code checker below and see what price it offers you connect at ,it will be either 17 or 5.
It may be different for you as you already have Sky TV, i haven't so just went through the order process to see the price it came up with.
Even if you cannot get connect for 5 for the reason above at least you will know roughly when they are doing the work on the exchange,i have been told once it moves to 5 they will be doing the work within 6 months.
My exchange recently moved from 17 to 5 as i guess they are unbundling it in the near future. (my results below)

We have based this check on the postcode you entered. This gives us a very good indication+ that Sky's Broadband Network will be reaching your area soon. You need an active BT phone line to order Sky Broadband.

Sky Broadband Connect - is currently available at just 5 a month - a one-off 30 standard set-up cost applies when you take up any combination of Sky products. With fast download speeds of up to 8Mb* and a massive 40GB a month usage allowance.
