Sky BB and P2P.....whats it like?

[link to this post]

Hi all!

I have just moved home to a shared house where there is already a BB package in guise of Sky....now apparently its unlimited but i doubt it very much as they dont strike me as the types to splash out the extra tenner for it...

Im rather spolied coming from a truly unlimited and unrestrcited service with F2S where i have been averaging around 80gb a month and with low ping times and no ports blocked or traffic shaping..

Whats Sky like in this regard?

Many thanks!

You can tell what package it is by the speed assuming that you can get the full speeds.

2mb = 2GB limit
8mb = 40GB limit
16mb = no limit (~250GB)

So do a speed test and see.

Bittorrent is fast on Sky Broadband and it is easily possible to max out a 16mb connection with popular torrents with enough peers to do so.

Log into the router and look at the line speeds

sky

Base will be around 2000 / 288
Mid/Connect will be around 8000 / 448
Max will be around >8000 / 768

If it's max prepare to be even more spoiled.

Hi,

I was doing a speed test and getting something like 3882 bps or such....so i was guessing thats about 4mb...

Is there no traffic shapping or such?

If you log into the router as described above rather than just do a speedtest you will be able to tell for certain which service you are on (or just ask your housemates how much they pay).

There is no traffic shaping on any of the LLU products. There is also no slow down in the evening for most customers.
