Wow! I'm connected!

[link to this post]

Sky connected me this morning! :-)

Stats are:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 39.0 db 22.5 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 14.0 db

I guess I'm on ADSL1 with the 8096 Downstream sync? If so, I guess these stats are good enough to get Sky to put me on ADSL2 with?

/me is greedy for speed now. All seems good so far. Speed tests are:

Down: 7003Kbps
Up: 646Kbps

Which, accounting for TCP overheads makes me a happy bunny!

Is this the date you were supposed to be connected, or is it early ? If it's early, you may well be upgraded to ADSL2+ automatically.

I was due to be connected today.

I know it's still early in the day so won't bother them today - is it automatic within the first day, or could it happen within the next few days?

/me is pretty happy with the stats anyway - better than my previous router managed. Only issue seems to be the wireless is ocassionally locking up on my laptop where no data will send/received and doing a ping says "hardware error".

A disconnect and re-connect of the wireless connection brings it back up again. If it's truly rubbish wireless then I'll have to just grab an old wireless access point!

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I have seen others report in forums that their ADSL2+ didn't kick in immediately. I'd give it a day or two, and if it hasn't happened, then phone Sky.

You should get a little more with ADSL2+ (maybe 10-12Mbps instead of 8Mbps), but your 8dB noise margin isn't that good (you don't have much room to manoeuvre).
Is it any better in the test socket inside your BT master phone socket?

ADSL2+ with BE
DL Sync Blimey....4707kbps now!
UL Sync 1088kbps

Check and update the drivers on your wireless card for your laptop. That might fix that issue.

Solved by changing the wireless channel - all the other networks round here were on channel 1 which is what the Sky router was trying to use!
