Speeds.....again. Advice from a Guru Please ;)

[link to this post]

Just out of my 10 day settling down period on Sky LLU Unlimited. Speed seems to have dropped today. Anyone any ideas what sort of speed i should be expecting?

Current connection been up for 32hrs previously i had only 1 disconnect during the 10 day intial period which ran from the 26th Jan.

Connection is directly into the ADSL socket of a BT fitted prefiltered faceplate.

Line length to the exchange is i believe less than 1000 metres.

Router DG834 Stats:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15227 kbps 1185 kbps
Line Attenuation 12 db 2.5 db
Noise Margin 13 db 7 db

Downstream Upstream
06/02/10 11:58 11106.61 Kbps 1001.54 Kbps
04/02/10 10:04 12502.00 Kbps 1001.79 Kbps
02/02/10 11:43 11552.21 Kbps 1001.47 Kbps
30/01/10 13:57 12344.10 Kbps 1010.34 Kbps
29/01/10 10:23 11244.72 Kbps 945.06 Kbps

Any suggestions if the speed is less than i should be getting? Is this the fault of the Dynamic Line tool that Sky use?

thanks..

You should be getting 18Mbps. You need to speak to Tech Support and ask them to fix your SNR margin to 6dB. I assume that you've done all the usual things in the house - all Sky boxes and phones filtered, ring wires disconnected, etc ?

Yes, the faceplate itself was fitted by a BT Engineer about three years ago and is filtered at source i.e. the faceplate is a BT fitted prefiltered variety with separate outputs for ADSL and Telephony. I have tried removing the frontplate and connecting direct to the master socket with no telephony devices connected whatsoever and the results have never been different to be honest.

The speed prediction when i signed up stated 10-12 mbit/s which again puzzles me somewhat considering the distance to the exchange is estimated to be below 800metres and is abou 400metres as the crow flies.

For some reason, I only ever averaged about 4.5 mbit/s on Madasafish upto 8 meg service.

Well what is more puzzling is that the upload SNR is set at 7db and the download at 13db...... strange
