Good Line Stats? Low Sync/speed?

[link to this post]

Hi all, I really do hope someone can help.

From what I have read I understand that my Line Stats are very good yet my Sync Rate and Speeds are low compared to what I should be able to receive. I'm not far from my telephone exchange and from Line Estimators I have used it shows that my line should receive the max spped available.

Could someone please let me know what I can do and if my understanding of a good line is correct?

Line Stats Below;

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9213 kbps 928 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.0 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 13.2 db 8.0 db

Many thanks in advance, greatly appreciated,

ShaverZ

Try ringing sky and ask them to put you on the Gaming profile.

What would the gaming profile achieve and what changes will Sky make? Is the gaming profile simular to removing Interleaving on a MAX product?

Many thanks

Which sky bb package are you on, ?
Assuming that you are connected to easynet sky's kit at your exchange(LLU) and not on the connect package,
It would seem that your target snr is high on the downstream Noise Margin 13.2 db this should be normally set to sky's default of 7db ,sky don't support fastpath, as even if it enabled the dlm will automatically switch it back to interleave but apparently will lower the depth of interleave/delay but it won't increase your sync,
which router are you using? the netgear dg834g v5 is a good match for easynet dslam's providing higher sync rates than the pile of ****supplied by sky, with an attenuation of 22db on adsl2+ you should easily see sync's of +16mbit downstream and the full 1.3mbit upstream so there could be a problem with your internal extensions/sockets or filters, or the way it is set up, all phones skyboxes connected to the phoneline need a filter, or sky's dlm is stuck and needs manually configuring by sky's tech support

Your stats are only good in the sense that you have a short line.

You are running at about half speed; you should get at least 17.5 Meg even at that NM.

Gaming (Fastpath) profile wont make any diff to speed; only reduce your latency (ping)

Have you done all the checks on your internal wiring? Tried the test socket behind faceplate?

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU BB => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU BB

17.5mbit maybe on fastpath,but sky normally won't enable true fastpath, so even with a little interleave the sync will not increase,and as other sky customers have been told should they be put onto fastpath dlm will reset the profile to interleaved , so on it interleave would be around 12-13mbit , the upstream looks a little low too,so it is possible there is some line fault, or fault with the router filters cables ect at your end

Yes it will.
Oh, and it's not fastpath.

I'm on the SKY Unlimited Package LLU, what's strange is that I moved home and Sky were never aware that BT Transfered all services to my new address. Broadband was up and running yet Sky said it wasn't and I wasn't being charged. Sky had to put a reorder through even though the service was active! What I also find odd is that the sync speeds are very simular to my old address and my old address was even closer to the exchange. I've tried everything and nothing improves the service!

What I have noticed is that the master socket has a green and white wire hanging out, so when the faceplate is closed these wires are pocking out. It looks like whoever has done this has intended to make it visible, for what reason I have no idea!

The Sky Router is just that, [censored]. Wireless signal is very poor! Im in a flat yet the signal wont reach one room along! It's the Sagem Router.

So what is it then?

It will only increase sync slightly, not enough to resolve my speed issues.

No, it will solve your speed issues. My mate on sky went from 9Megs to 19Megs.

It's a Gaming profile. It uncaps the connection speed set by DLM and reduces the interleaving delay.

I kept my router turned off last night, the first time ever and have just checked my stats and the line sync has changed, why would this result in any change and not before?

New stats below;

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Connection Speed 12280 kbps 916 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.0 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 12.3 db 8.5 db

Should I turn it off again this evening?

Well, I kept the router off again last night and my speeds have again improved, see line states from today below;

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15356 kbps 916 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.0 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 8.0 db

Surely, simply leaving it off overnight shouldn't increase sync/speeds or should it?

That's as fast as you're going to get with Sky. ( 7db is the lowest SNR they officially support )

If you want more speed you need to 'obtain' the username and password from the Sky router and use another router that supports DMT or will run a custom firmware allowing you to 'force' a higher sync. To do this you will also need to be on the gaming profile to remove the SNR restriction from your account.

Sky do not support any of the above apart from moving you onto the gaming profile.

Sky

Any ISP that thinks that selling my click traffic is acceptable is MisinPHORMed

He could also get more sync speed by using a router with a conexant chipset such as a netgear DG834G-V5 or Billion 7204-R, nx ect , because the chipset is a better match to the easynet exchange dslams, providing that he is connected to the older Easynet kit, to find out , in the run box type"CMD" then "TRACERT" and enter a web address or ip, so for example: tracert bbc.co.uk at the prompt>
the first hop after your routers lan ip,will begin with Cr0."exchange name".uk.easynet.net exampleCr0.LVNOR.uk.easynet.net (LVNOR)=liverpool north,the difference in sync can be as much as 2mbit more depending on the current routers compatibility ,with the exchange kit, note: the Netgear DG834V5 i don't know of any 3rd party firmware or utility that would enable you to lower the snr on this router, where as the billion series it is possible via the routers cli to change the snr margin,
Should you want to try the DG834v5 the cheapest i have found is DG834V5 New the billion7204 range are more expensive, but are better router

Is this Sky (Sagem) router known to have very poor wireless signal?

I have tried all available channels and used the software 'vistumbler' and nothing improves the range. I only live in a flat and the signal will not reach to 2 (small) rooms along...
