I've never had a problem with my broadband for over a year and have always switched it all off at night because it was plugged into the same socket as my PC. I noticed over the last week the speed was dropping but I didn't feel it was an issue until these last few days when I was only getting 450kb/s on Steam! I checked my router connection and it was stuck fast at 5304 kbps, thus phoning up Sky Broadband they told me to try the test socket and different filter and with no difference.
They said it may be due to me switching it off and the line picking that up as a fault, hence dropping the speeds. But I've never had this problem before on any internet connection I've ever had in regards to switching it off!
But any way, I left it on for 24hrs as per their instructions and to wait for the 10 day profiling to kick in again to fix it.
I checked today and it's doing 4695kbps and I haven't even touched it or turned it off! So why has it dropped
( It should be at 40mbps connection, not 4.5 )

Your problems may be due to DLM thinking your line is unstable because you keep turning it off and on.
DLM is always on.

Fibre doesn't have a 10 day profiling thing it is always adjusting. I would find a separate power socket for your router (and fibre modem if you have one) and leave them on. Mine has been on for nearly 2 years.
plusnet unlimited fibre - 2 Jun 14 - 470m - 80/20 - Summer/dry sync 55/9.4, Winter/wet sync 52/9.1
15 years broadband (1999 ntl:cable trial) - Asus RT-AC68U with HG612 - BQM - Summer PN speed - Winter PN speed

Yeh I guess I'll have to, I have a 10m ethernet cable coming this week as well because at the moment it's cables across my living room floor

Yes I did. DLM takes longer than 24 hours to start increasing your speeds. More like 2-3 weeks.

Well they have an engineer coming out on Wednesday to re-train/profile the line, between 8 and 12. Their exact words They said it will start high up and drop till it is the most stable

If he does a DLM reset you should be fine.

Just some quick tips which may have not been fully covered.
Firstly - do not turn it off (this has been covered but I will reiterate that point, these things make adjustments in the middle of the night, they are expected to be always on. I believe the Sky Hub even comes with a sticker saying to keep it always on).
All line adjustments, line management etc will happen overnight. If routers off you'll mess it up. Also it is recommended to keep the Sky TV box connected for upgrades also carried out overnight.
Secondly you need to be using that master phone socket
http://community.plus.net/library/wp-content/uploads...
It has a slit in the middle as highlighted.
You do not want to be using one of these sockets
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/images/phone/LJU2_front_s...
Also ensure that every single socket has a filter before anything else.
http://www.o2.co.uk/assets/O2HybridNav/Static-files/...
Notice in the image it goes phone socket - filter - phone connected
This has to be applied to every socket
This kind of setup is terrible
http://www.exbtengineers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013...
No phone socket should have a device connected without a filter
IE Sky box plugged directly into phone socket = terrible
Landline plugged directly into phone socket = terrible
It should be phone socket - filter - sky box
phone socket - filter - landline
Using these kinds of extensions is a big no-no (they will screw your speed up)
http://www.lindy.co.uk/images/5m-telephone-extension...
So to clarify you need
Master socket - Filter - Sky Hub
Any extensions - filter - device in use (sky box, landline, fax machine all need to be filtered)
No cheap flat telephone extension cabling for the broadband.
Cheap extension RJ11 cables like these are a big no-no
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10m-Metre-RJ11-To-RJ11-Cab...
Extend the network with Ethernet if you must (or just a very high quality cable) - Ethernet is preferred.
EDIT: WiFi using the default kit is unlikely to deliver close to the 80Mbps speeds. So you are aware.

If you saw my set up, you couldn't get any better
But thanks for those tips any way

Really shocked you saw such huge losses in speed then!
I would expect some slowdown due to turning off but not to that level. That said I've never tested it, my routers never unplugged and has its own dedicated socket, so we're looking at a turn off when there's a power cut only.
I've had over 6 months of uptime before.
I really should turn more appliances off, my bill is a fortune! It often feels like dixons showroom in my house when I get home, Tv left on, lights on, laptops loaded up on screensavers, phones on the side etc.

I may be missing something but doesn't fibre have a different Master socket thereby negating the need for separate filters assuming the extension is wired correctly?
Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard
Now Utility Warehouse (up to 16mbps) via Talk Talk

Not necessarily, fibre can come in self-install variants these days. Not sure if that is applicable here.
Oliver.

Sky do not change the master socket on the standard 40Mbps product.
You just use traditional filters, no engineer visit and it is all self install.
Same with BT infinity 40 Mbps they do not change the socket anymore.
You could theoretically use an extension socket on fibre etc.

Uh Oh
Your service has been disconnected.
I'll be very annoyed if they shut my internet off after telling me from three different departments that this would not happen. I wont be able to find out until I get home
Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro
Your order is progressing.
UPDATE : I've just spoken to sky, and they said I am now on the FIBRE OPTIC PRO service, but it hasn't updated on the my sky site yet... Phew!
