Guess Sky must have had some network issues because I had exactly the same.

Had a chat with a knowledgeable chap.

Probably not a coincidence 68 GB worth of Call of Duty update, similar size across all three platforms, went live at that time.

IF this was the case then this is poor on sky's network as that means the download server has more bandwidth then skys entire network. It was a sky issue and not just congested links as it didn't affect other ISP's I know of so prob a network issue.

There wasn't a single download server feeding the entire world.

Sky's entire network wasn't congested though clearly some of it was.

It did affect other ISPs to one extent or another.

Beyond that it would take time I don't have to explain but it's far, far more complicated than just a single server overwhelming the entire Sky network and, actually, blame doesn't sit on the shoulders of our ISPs alone.

If you're willing to pay Sky more so that they can have a few terabits a second sitting spare all the time for the 2 hours a year when something like this happens I'm sure they'll be open to it.

My COD update was done on my VM connection as thats what my consoles are connected to for updates, that update can be seen on my TBB VM graph but its nothing like my idle Sky connection was during the issue last night. Big game updates are not new, can't see that being the issue tbh, although it might contribute?

It was the issue. It increased network load by 30-40% across the board. It was rolled out in a somewhat haphazard way which didn't help.

Some localised congestion is to be expected. Operators can't sell what they do and run with 40%+ capacity doing nothing 99.99% of the time.

May have literally been a single congested link you both share or you were both unlucky. I don't see the forum lighting up with complaints from Sky customers so I guess most were fine.

Yep, exact same issue for me. Glad you've answered it as I was worrying it was an issue with my line.

I saw exactly that shape on a friend's Sky connection in Herts.

Not a murmur on a Plusnet VDSL and a VM connection I monitor at the same time.

Bad one Sky!
