Option61 is still needed, I guess before it must have been due to the previous session still being up or some such.

No there is absolutely zero requirement to extract username and password from the device. The only requirement is for option 61.

Generally sky agents beyond a certain level, if you reach them, will recommend

Generic Username And Password
[email protected]|password
This will work any custom router that supports DHCP option 61 (MER).

As I said best then I really should say yes to wifi 6 but to be honest something that supports DHCP Option 61 and can easily handle say 300/50 FTTP

I'd probably get an Asus RT-AX86U or RT-AX58U and put Merlin firmware on it (as easy as a normal F/W update) and Merlin F/W has option 61
