Connection Speed vs Download Speed

I'm on Sky Max and I'm sure this question has been asked a million times before, but could someone please explain why my connection speed is currently 10503 kbps but my download speed (using bbmax) averages around 3200 kbps?
My actual router stats are as follows and I can get the connection speed up to 12000+ kbps by plugging my router into the main socket which also takes my downstream noise margin to around 9db.......

Speedtesters are prone to congestion. Your stats are just about bang on mine, although I'm on Bulldog. If you need to prove your connection speed try downloading a huge file from some well-connected server. I know I can get 11Mb down but I don't fret about it too much.

I tried the same speedtest by plugging in the network cable to the router and got results of 9mbps!
Does wireless really make such a difference? I thought that if I was connected wirelessly at 54mbps then the restriction should be the internet connection speed?
Are there some settings on the router I should look to change to improve the speed?

Wireless always suffers some speed lag over wired ethernet. Personally; i still get better results from a 100mbps lan connection than a 108mbps wireless lan 802.11g+ connection.

Now that is just scary - I have no choice but to use wireless :-( I wonder how much time I could have saved if I were using ethernet as opposed to wireless :-s

Its shouldn't be massively influencial....i was talking one of two percent in my case, but as out connections get faster you are using a greater proportion of the usable wireless bandwidth, so there is a greater chance that you will be suffering from a bottleneck.

In the days of 2meg you were only using about 10% of the throughput (54mbps wifi has approx 22mb actual throughput) whereas now with people on 24Mb you are coming close to 100%. With ethernet i believe that the throughput is proportionately greater, but as time goes on and out connections get faster, there is a good chance that our home networks will be the source of the bottleneck as opposed to the ISP.
