I'm with plusnet at the minute, and download speeds from usenet are 28k on a saturday, which in my opinion is terrible, I can get 8mb speeds, so I'd expect no less then 200k downloading during peak times (even though saturday is offpeak).
Anyway, I'm thinking about moving to Skys MAX product, just wondered what the speeds were like, do they slow down much on an evening/weekends?

How far from the exchange are you? I get a solid 7Mb on Mid at all times but I'm only 100 metres from the exchange and that's one reason I went with Sky - if I were several k's away I'm not sure what I would have done either way, kick PlusNet into touch; they have had their time.
Also meant to say that my download stats are far higher than yours!

I'm about a mile from the exchange at the minute, and sync at 8000k at the minute using IPStream.

Its fantastic,
Download Speed: 12845 kbps (1605.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 603 kbps (75.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
and for 10 how can you argue with that.
Smooth transfer from Nildram too

Apart from a few teething problems after my connection in January its damn good for the 10 they ask in return. I'm hovering around the 11mbps mark whereas previously on maxDSL with Newnet best I could get was around 6.5mbps. Haven't noticed any slowdowns like I used to see on the BT adsl service but that could change I suppose.

When I first went with plusnet, speeds were great, however as more people saw plusnet as a good deal, bandwith became a shortage. So they brought in traffic shaping (which is the best in the business by the way), but they've never increased capacity. They prioritise traffic. So now, during day, evening and weekends there is so much web and email traffic that theres no bandwidth left for the like of usenet. Plusnet have now been bought by BT retail, and they've ordered more bandwidth due to be delivered in march, so maybe some improvements then.
My worry is that Sky BB may be fine now, but what will it be like in 6 months? will there be a bandwidth shortage, and when there is a low amount of bandwidth left, are they likely to get more straight away or drag their heals out like plusnet in order to make profit?

When you get your crystal ball working perhaps you could PM me next weeks lotto numbers.

I think Sky have a different remit than ISP's like PlusNet - from what I gather TV on demand is really one area that Sky will focus on, which will take huge capacity so one would hope that their is some significant planning here.
I did also once see stated that EasyNet have a 1Tb pipe [capacity], or was that just talk!
Thanks - Blue

The IP/Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network has a core ring capacity of a huge 1Terabit (Tbps), and is scalable to 4Tbps when needed.

Thanks Simon but in lay terms what does that mean? Do EasyNet themselves have huge capacity?
