Sky Max - Experienced some strange speed changes

Subscribed to Sky Max and have experienced some strange speed changes

Originally when I connected this link it reported around

Connection Speed 3264 kbps 768 kbps connected on Ext Socket in Bedroom

I thought this was reasonable enough however then I connected the
router to the Master Socket in the living room and only received

Connection Speed 1784 kbps 768 kbps

I replaced Sky Microfilter with BT m/f and connection jumped to following.
(removing both phone and skybox connection at the time)

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2656 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 48.0 db 30.5 db
Noise Margin 10.9 db 14.0 db

I then removed BT M/F and replaced it with Sky M/F and it went up again
(reconnected the phone and skybox connection and speed remains)

QUESTION .... and finally ;0)

This seems extremely strange to me and wondered if it was a common occurance ?

I believe I am now tapped out at 3264k up and 768k down but wondered if any of you wise DSL guru types out there could see any improvements based on supplied figures

Try the other way around with your speeds

Well, I have 58dB attenuation and get a stable 4.3Mbps

LMAO - Yeah - I got my speeds mixed up ;0)

So assuming lower is better how might this explain why you have a higher attenuation rate and a better speed rate ?

It means that my line has less noise on it (higher noise margin at a given speed). You could try things like connecting the router to the master socket or disconnecting the internal extensions, but there's no hard and fast rule to improving the speeds. It could even be something along the route of your line back to the exchange that's introducing noise.

Thanks for the info - I am pretty happy with the speed I am getting although it would be nice to break 10mb for all those people who are hardwired into the exchange :0)

I only get the following with my sky max package:-

up = 672000
down = 3296000
snr = 6.5
attn = 55

So you getting 4.3meg with attn at 58 is great, i thought i should at least get the same?
