Downstream speed fluctuations?

I have been on Max now for 1 week.

It started at 2.5mb but yesterday it got down to 1mb. This morning after rebooting it is nearly 3mb!

Is this normal to habe such a difference in speeds on ADSL2?

When my speed is low, should I reboot?

Depends what speed your synced at.

If the router reports a lower than previously seen speed, then a reboot will bring you back up to speed.

Is this normal then? Should I just reboot when it is a bit slow?

Hard to say what's normal, esp with you being so far from the exchange.

best speed yet as last night is was 1340

Keep an eye on Rate (Kbps): 3040 768

if this drops as the sun sets then look at the wiring in the property, in particular trying from the test socket at the master socket when things are bad, and resolving issues by fitting an ADSL faceplate and dedicated extension or removing the ring wire.

A sync of 3040Kbps is fairly OK for a 57dB attenuation line, so just a case of trying to keep this speed when the sun sets

The test socket didn't make a real difference.

My SNr has dropped night now to 4.9 which I know is poor

Your SNR level seems to be the important number on Sky (Whether this is an LLU thing I'm not sure).
You need to keep it at 7 or more ideally or, in my experience, you will lose your internet connection.
If it drops below 7 you need to reboot your router and it will find a better level,although your sync speed will drop.
