How is this possible?

Normally when I plug in my Sky router and check the downspeed line attenuation it shows 46 or 47db. However, every 5th or 6th time I plug it in it drops to 15.5db. Can anyone explain how this could be possible? It shows 15.5db at the moment but I know that if I unplug the router and replug it in again it will go back to 46 or 47db. Obviously, If I could find a way to make sure that it always stayed at 15.5db then I should be able to get pretty close to the maximum 16Mbps instead of the 3.5Mbps I get with 47db.

sounds like a bad connection in the socket. do you have a test socket you can try?

yes, my router is plugged into an extension phone lead running from the main socket downstairs.

When I get time I will try plugging it directly into the main socket to see if I get 15.5db or less all the time.

The 15.5 attenuation is a router bug ( software glitch ) your attenuation will always be 46 / 47. but you still should get more speed than 3mbs with an attenuation of 46. You need to check your internal wiring / extensions... If you plug directly into the master socket with nothing else plugged in you should see your sync speed rise.

Use this http://dg834gt.mognuts.com/NetgearRouterUtility.html ..... it gives you detailed stats on your line to see what your max sync line potential could be. Just open the .cfg file it creates with wordpad.
