Newbie post... smtp setting on a Mac?

Hi all

New to Sky and this forum. Sorry if this has been covered before but i did try searching the forum but nothing turned up.

I am trying to setup my Sky email account on my Apple Mac and i'm using Mail as my email client.

I have setup the account and all was well until I entered the smtp.sky.com as the outgoing server address and it said it couldn't connect.

I have tried authentication but that didn't work either. I am able to send email.

Can anyone help?

I have also started with Sky recently - like me, you may have been put straight on to the new e-mail (Googlemal-based).

See HERE, scroll down to 'Configuring Outlook and other POP Email Programs > Configuring your email client: Apple Mail' - the POP & SMTP servers are named differently and use different ports/SSL/authentication, etc.

nice one baldur - forgot about the transition from old to new e-mail systems (I'm not changed over yet so I'll tuck that away for when mine gets done)!

I have now used the smtp.tools.sky.com address as the outgoing server and it works!!! strangely though pop.tools.sky.com DOESN'T!! so I have reverted back to pop.sky.com and I can now send again.

Another strange one.... i have mail sitting in my in box but they are not being downloaded to my email client. They do eventually but not straight away... Mmm???

Have you enabled POP in the settings page in the webmail client which is available from 'Sky Tools'?

Yipee.... never would have found that!! not very intuitive is it.!! Lets hope my HD box is a lot easier to operate!! when it arrives.
