Changed to MAX - same sync speed

[link to this post]

Hello,

I have been with Sky Broadband for about a couple of months now and have been able to get excellent download speeds on their MID package, i looked at my stats and they look like they would suit MAX, so i contacted sky and they upgraded my to their MAX package,
the next day i disconnected router and reconnected, the SYNC speed for downstream syncs at 8096, the upstream has gone upto 768.

i thought it strange that the downstream would not really change, i have removed the faceplate from my socket so i could connect to the main socket but this has no effect at all, i have posted my detailed stats below, does anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Well, you are on Max, in as much that your upload speed has increased, but the "G.dmt" bit in your specs means that you are still on ADSL2, not ADSL2+

Your noise margin suggests that your line should be able to support ADSL2+, so you need to talk to Tier3 support.

In reply to:

Think that should be "still on ADSL1".

have just phoned them, the foreign lady lad to ask some silly questions before giving me a case number for tier3, they were busy so will call back later,

i love the questions though -
are you connected via the yellow cable? think she was refering to the network cable?
is the power light on?

anyway i will post when have an update

can i ask which figures you are looking at that tell you it is ADSL 1?

juust so i sound like i know what i'm talking about when i call them back later on

Thanks

Edit - Apologies i have just re-read, the fact is says G.DMT means i am on ADSL1

This primarily:
Mode: G.DMT

Added to:
Rate (Kbps): 8096 768

and:
SNR (dB): 13.6 13.0

The G.DMT is the ADSL standard. The rate is the max rate that sky use on ADSL1. The fact you still have some spare SNR would suggest if you were on ADSL2 then the speed would be higher than the limit of sky's implementation on ADSL1.

Here's a nice data sheet showing the difference etc...

Thanks for the info, still no update have not managed to speak to teir 3 yet, must have tried 7 or 8 times,

i took the phone line out of my router earlier and reconnected it, it has now synced at 4992 downstream and 512 upstream, will re-test it later when my current xbox download has completed.

looking at the detailed stats its still showing as normal ADSL and not ADSL2

below are the detailed stats of the current connection

Try turning the power off to the router for a minute, then switch it back on again. Just disconnecting the phone line can have undesirable effects.
