Sky Port Throttling

[link to this post]

I did some heavy usenet downloading yesterday, the first day for ages id downloaded that much, noticed today that my download speed from newsgroups maxxed out at 512k speed (60k/sec) with 8 connections, I opened 30 connections and only got 1.8mb, then changed the port number from 119 to 80 and guess what? Full speed (6.0mbps), so it turns out sky are throttling usenet ports. just my 2pence worth.

Im quite disgusted at that, seeing as i've hardly used my connection this month yesterday I downloaded about 20gb in one day and today.. I've been throttled on my usenet port.. very suspicious.

Im on the max package.

Had an issue last weekend where my P2P was stuck at very low speeds. Changed router to my SAR600EW and back again and all is well. Maybe there is something afoot but I doubt it.

im not convinced that this isnt sky throttling, its only port 119 thats affected and this has come into play only since i did some heavy downloading 2 days ago, all a bit suspect. Ill keep an eye on port 119 see if it comes back up, been with my usenet providor for 3 years+ and never have I not received full speed from them.

Are you with newshosting? A lot of people on various ISPs (including myself on Sky Max) have been seeing this with them lately. Not a big deal to me right now as simply changing port usually sorts it out. If I get to stage where I cannot download at full speed with any news provider then it will be time to change from Sky. For now I'm happy enough that newshosting is the source of the problem.

Think what you want, Sky do not throttle on any of their LLU packages, fact.

They are not VM.
