is sky bb good?

[link to this post]

I have just obtained a MAC code from BT after having lots of problems with wireless connection. Not sure why,but when we started using a laptop about a month ago, we couldnt connect using wireless, it was then a 45 min call while the tech support guys connected us, only for wireless connection to be lost 3-4 days later and not being able to connect until another 45min call! this went on

Anyway I'm thinking of giving Sky bb a go! 5 for sky connect as cannot get mid or max in area. so questions!!

1) will i get similar speed as BT (4.5Mbps)
2) is sky bb good and is the tech support number cheap or expensive
3) I'm not keen on the 30 activation fee, could i bargain with them if I say I'm undecided between sky bb and orange bb and orange dont charge activation (cheeky!)

thanks guys!

Sky connect at 5 a month?

Sky connect is the non- LLU Sky offering (i.e. the one that isn't using Sky's equipment in telephone exchanges) and is usually 17 a month.

LLU Sky offering start from zero to 10 a month on broadband.

Use the link I have put below and it will tell you exactly what ADSL services you can get by just putting in your post code or phone number (i.e. it may say "Sky LLU" - that means you can use Sky or Be and they are an LLU service).

Link to ADSL services checker.

If you can't get a Sky LLU product - I personally wouldn't bother with the Sky connect option as there are better offerings around.

Did Sky tell you that your exchange is soon to be on Sky LLU?

I believe that Sky Connect for 5/month is for those on exchanges where unbundling is happening in the near future.

it does look like my exchange is being updated soon. this is good news as I'd rather go with O2 broadband and they will be off the same LLU, won't they? I may just hold out on my BT bb for another 6 months max!! If i did take up connect with sky would they switch me over to sky bb mid or would there be no difference?

No they won't. Each LLU has its own supply chain.

O2 bb is provided by Be (who are owned by O2), whilst Sky is provided by Easynet (owned by Sky).
