No connection

[link to this post]

Hi can anyone offer any advice.
I last used my connection saturday with no problem I came to use it sunday and didnt have a connection - thinking that it was probably a blip in the system i left it and didnt think too much of it - its happend before but only about twice with other ISPS and never more than for a few hours. Anway came to Monday and still nothing and i dont really know whats causing it. I emailed sky when I was at work they sent me a form with some details to fill in have u changed filters etc (which i have) have u used the master socket (my connection has always been to the same socket via an extension cable not sure its the master but cant see why it would have died overnight - i know it happens) Anyway sky havent got back to me to say they have looked into anything behind the scence and im out most nights at the moment so has anyone got any suggestions

I have the black netgear router.
the tick light is off - sometimes flashes amber but then goes off again
@ is off
No ipaddress for adsl port
Modem status is connecting - ive tred reboots and resets.
SKY PPOA test comes back with error code 100 The sky test was unable to detect the connection.
Sync problem???

From the symptoms it does appear to me that perhaps someone has pulled a plug at the exchange.

I take it the tick light you refer to is the detection of an adsl signal, if so it does look like it could be an exchange issue.

You need to phone I guess, late at night is usually a good time to get a small/no queue.

Yeah sorry i couldn't think of a proper term but yes the tick on the rouetr is the ADSL signal.
Im going to try banging the router direct into my phone sockets tonight see if anything happens then

If it cannot detect the signal with nothing else in the house connected it is either a duff router or as I said someone has disturbed the connection at the exchange. Any old router you have can be tried to see if it picks up an ADSL signal, it does not have to be connected to the computer.

Sky can usually run a tone test that detects if the line is connected or not. If you are LLU your ADSL connection is on a separate piece of equipment owned by Sky.

Annoyingly I have managed to get a connection downstairs so it looks like the upstairs socket is faulty. i tried putting a phone on it and dialing but it wasnt completeing the call. I checked round a bit more and it looks like the wire has come out of its casing (should have seen it earlier really) How do i go about getting that fixed anyone know? Probably have to BT which i reckon will cost but dont even know how to get the ball rolling.
Is cabling the phone socket simelar to a network back box? or is it more complicated?
Thanks for you help sadoldman

Not so many wires as in a network faceplate.

The terminals you are interested in are: 2 & 5 (line) and 3 (ringer).

If you have plug in filters at your sockets then 3 is not really required as the filters have the necessary bits in to produce the ringing.
