Sky Broadband Router Problems

[link to this post]

Okay, well my sister was using Sky Broadband in other room but cannot connect to Windows Live Messenger, after browsing quite a few stuff, was mentioned checking something in the router. I tried connecting to router but I couldn't remember password as I use virgin media in my room. However reset the router, and still would not accept username as admin, and password as sky.

After attempting all sorts, it accepted username: admin, password: password, and went through the basis of detecting new internet connection, but asking for a username and password. If I recall, when I used this router, this was all done because one of the things that annoyed me was I couldn't really change much because it was all configured to sky, one of reasons I left for Virgin Media but left my parents with the base package as it's free.

I have tried ringing Sky but telephone number cuts me off saying they having technical problems. I did reset the router 3 times as the lights did not change much or I missed it, have I done something wrong? Please tell me I have not broke the router frown I never got a username and password, it just pretty much plug and play.

It sounds as though this is not a Sky router or, if it is, it has been flashed with a different firmware. Does she have another (Sky) router that was used previously?

Felix

That will, hopefully, solve the problem. The changed password on the existing router indicates the problem. The other way to check is to log into the router - Sky's firmware version is different from the Netgear standard and the pages themselves are quite different.

Hope it's all sorted soon.

Felix

2 things i wonder

1) if you dont mind me asking did they charge for the new router (are you in / out of your first 12 months) ok so thats 2 parts right there....

2) (or is it 3?) smile it sounds like whatever has happened, the old router has lost setting, that means you could flash the firmware then you have a working netgear router use it for anything (or as a backup for any failed ones you may get in the future) or wireless relay for the out of range places in your home etc

Sky said router would be free even though out of twelve month contract, and yes it appears the router is working fine as it asks for a Internet username and password. It is in sync with the line as it shows upstream and downstream etc
