Line noise

[link to this post]

Any one have any problems with line noise during the day ?

Most of the time my noise margin is fine and can easily connection at 8 meg however at some time during the while i'm at work the line noise seems to be creeping up and forcing the connection to go down and reconnection at about 5 meg.

from what i remember reading before its usualy the case that the line noise might increse at night due to street lights etc

Anyone got any suggestions what this could be ?

My only suggestion is do you live near a premises that would be working in the daytime that may have some machine/equipment etc that may be producing the electrical noise that is causing the same sort of problems that a street light etc can cause at night. May not need to be that close it could be en route to the exchange. Does it cause problems to your neighbours too? Do you have something running at home in the day but not at night? Finding the cause can be really tricky but being methodical you should be able to pinpoint the problem.

umm interesting, just had some fluctuations on the noise margin and Attenuation.

When things where unstable the Attenuation went up to 44, now its settled down again its gone to 42. I thought this figure is usually pretty stable and it was the noise margin that can move.

at the moment its connected at about 5 meg with a noise margin of 18.5, if I reconnect it now it'll go to 8 med with a noise margin of 8- 9.

can't see anything in the area were work is being done so can't pin it down. would it be worth getting the BT guys out to take a look or will they just check the line see the noise margin is currently ok and fob me off ?

yes they will look at the line and fob you off and probably charge you for the visit . especially if a problem is found on your home wiring .
