Sky or O2

[link to this post]

ive been with sky broadband, on the max llu package since the beginning more or less and have not had any single problem with it.

My only issue lately has been that whereas i was getting just over 6mb, now only seem to be getting 5mb and is stuck there thanks to whatever sky have done to the line

how does o2 compare to sky as thinking about leaving sky, especially as i need a new router, currently using old netgear v3 as original sky router stopped working

Post your line stats.

Can you get O2 LLU? (not Access)

sky use DLM which to most is a hinderence in terms of performance. Both isps have a solid LLU reputation.

I think O2 edges it their interleaving profile seems to have minimal impact on latency and they dont use persistent DLM (maybe only at start). But avoid O2 if it is only O2 access can get.

I left Sky for Be because of Sky's DLM, and because for some unknown reason Sky's ADSL2+ service gave slower speeds than g.dmt

Need to know if you can get O2 LLU and if you're currently on ADSL2+.

Looks like you've got a good line but quite long. You won't see much speed improvement.

With Sky you can get issues with their DLM (I did).

I switched to o2 and am very pleased with it as not only can I get the max. speed from my line with nothing like DLM 'managing' it - it also worked out a lot cheaper for me (i.e. when I joined o2 I went via Quidco plus they had a 3 months free offer on o2 plus I got the month;y price discounted even further by having an o2 PAYG deal on a phone.

All of the above meant my overall speeds were faster than Sky supplied along with my broadband connection costing just over £1 a month for the 12 months of the contract.

I am talking about o2 LLU BTW.

what issues do you get with DLM? (newbie to sky). only got it activated yest.

anyways, O2 were great at my last address where there was an LLU option. no downtime, no speed problems - no hassle at all.

here though sky (easynet) is the only real LLU option. i was with bulldog but their CS sucked and they only do 8meg now afaik

1st ISP - Demon - Dialup
2nd ISP - Pipex 512K, then 1Mb
3rd ISP - PlusNet 2Mb, kicked off after being placed on the bad boy pipe
4th ISP - Zen 2Mb. no probs at all.
5th ISP - Bulldog 4Mb then 8Mb, now 18Mb
6th ISP - O2. 18-20MB, i think,

See here for the issues I had with Sky's DLM.

Sky is a good ISP though - and reasonably cheap. However between LLU options on Sky and o2 - it was really a no brainer for me on cost as well, as Sky worked out much more expensive over 12 months.

o2 non LLU though I wouldn't touch with a bargepole.
