In reply to a post by NationsurfUK:
The only goal for the gamer profile is to reduce ping times. The profile itself may reduce speeds in order to stabalise the connection and making ther perfect enviroment to stream game traffic.

The profiling method is used only on the ISAM's (MPF) Ideal for their line of work with Anytime+ and pushing quality over a shared network for their applications.

Where as the legacy DSLAM's (SMPF) used for broadband only connections use manual settings to fine tune the connection however no calls or line.
This is all nonsense. Why don't you stick to spamming the forums.

This is on Sky's D-link Router:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9665 kbps 604 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.0db 20.3db
Noise Margin 5.8db 16.7db

Downstream gone up but upstream speed has gone down.

I'm sure I may be able to tweak them perhaps on another router wink
Looks like you have a problem with noise on your line. 35dB should give you 13Mb but your noise margin is limiting your speed.

Therefore, if you have sky broadband but no phone, you wont have an ISAM, with profiles (and the Gamer profile). You'll have a stinger DSLAM with manual control.

Call Sky's customer solutions team or ask on their forums.

Got a link for that or are you making it up?

Don't know about ISAMS but Yeah the SMPF connections are controlled by DSLAM'S and sky tech for some reason only have limited options available to them, for whatever the reason, so preventing custom profiles that suite both line conditions &user requests , ie a 4db snr profile with fast path enabled (zero interleave/delay)unlike the sky offerings, oh and dlm can also be disabled and sra can be utilised but they won't do that either, it's either company policy or that they are not given total control as uko were

Example A - Public Knowledge -
lucent DSLAM
(Stingers) or the complete SVBN ISAM's

Example B - Public Knowledge
Sky Voice and Broadband Network (SVBN) MPF (Line, Calls & BB)
non Sky Voice and Broadband Network (non-SVBN) (BB LLU Only) or Connect for BT ADSL

Example C - Public Knowledge
non-SVBN (Stingers) manual settings aka, sync speeds, SNR, max delay, interleading, ADSL2+ or G.DMT.

SVBN (ISAMs) have profiles. Set SNR values to Set speed / impulse noise protection settings (via interleaving, thus cannot be turned off)

Thanks for the heads up. I'll do some investigating into the matter.

Sorry, you're going to have to do a lot better than posting links to another forum to try and justify your "knowledge". Some 3rd-party technical details would be better. Joker tongue

The old exchange kit (easynet) is mostly globespan,Info on easynet dslam's sky/uko hence why any router with a conexant solos chipset in it will get a higher sync rate as it is more compatible with the dslams,
And as an ex ukonline customer i know ,quite a lot about the exchange kit i was connected to, so basically if you are a sky customer and don't pay sky line rental you will be on the older dslams which are globespan (conexant) and its address will look similar to this one "cr0.**********.uk.easynet.net" which for those who may not know is the 1st hop from your router (using tracert)

The newly LLU'ed exchanges (2010 - onwards) do not have the old Easynet DSLAM's they have the new ISAMs.

When i rang Sky to get the gaming profile they told me that the new exchanges were all new ISAM's.

My line is SMPF and my fisrt hop usually is "dr4.enlba.isp.sky.com"
