Rang sky up today and they said try the phone in the test socket, when i did that took away any interference that i had, they have escalated the problem and said they will ring me back within 72 hrs, another thing i have realised is the BT socket upstairs isn't connected up, even though when i asked the BT engineer he said it would be live if the master socket was, the woman on the phone did say try another face plate and that might solve it, any ideas?.

My broadband seems to be unaffected, as now the telephone is in the test socket the broadband seems the same and the speed is still the same, just the telephone doesn't have the noise now?.

Up to and including the master socket is the ownership of BT and anything after (extentions) belongs to the homeowner/landlord. Did the engineer charge for the, dodgy, testing of the extentions. If you are competant then using shielded cat5e cable rewire the extentions.

Humming...

From what you say, I would guess it's dodgy Extensions that are causing the problem.

Is the Bell wire disconnected at the Master Socket?

What do you mean by dodgy extension as all i have is the phone connected to the master socket, the phone point upstairs isn't even connected/live, i thought it was and the BT engineer said it would be now the master socket is but it isn't, no i dont think the bell wire is disconnected, is that the wire connected to point number 3 also called the ring wire, but apparently the new openreach sockets they already have a filter in for the ring wire, so it shouldn't make a difference, or is that wrong?.

I dont think i have any extentions connected, as i am only using the master socket, unless you mean something else by extention, sky left a message today which i couldn't really understand so called them back, they said it would be worth me trying another faceplate first before they send a BT engineer out, as apparently the internal wiring is my problem and not sky's or BT's, i thought this would be BT's as them installing a dodgy faceplate or not wiring it up properly is not a problem of the customers, surely.
