Re: What is the maximum Sky Speed?

Thought I would email them and give it another try and just received a response saying they have released any sync capps and place me on gaming profile, now im synced at ADSL

672 / 20476 kbps

Why is it that when they place you on the Gaming profile, you lose speed? I don't understand this and I noticed it a while back when I had a few issues...

I thought it was a case of having interleaving on or off and if interleaving is on then you lose a little speed, not the other way around crazy

Also any profile below the highest one has a restircted upload to 765 kbps

That explains why I only get 800 Kbps upstream !

If you let DLM run it can set a profile upto 1200 kbps upload.

If you ring up sky and have them do the sync speed manually the uploads restricted.

You can request DLM to be re-run, but ensure you ask for them to select the "stabilize" option also. Otherwise it wont force the line to retrain. They often don't select stabilize if you just request DLM to run.

Thanks for that but I can't see how asking to have the DLM re-run will lead to a faster upstream speed as I have quite a long line ?

My downstream attenuation is 53 dB and my upstream attenuation is 33 dB

Is the SNR on your upstream already 7db

If its higher DLM can extract more upstream

Whether it will or not - it's all a guess.

No it varies between 10 and 11 dB

Yeah basically if you ring sky they have fixed profiles. They generally cannot give you an upload above around 765 kbps.

If you let DLM run it can set the upload much higher. DLM can set an upload upto 1200 kbps - which in practice syncs at 1100 kbps for some reason.

DLM can set a high upload speed regardless of the download speed.

As your SNR is higher than 7db DLM will probably increase the upload speed.

Basically sky customer services even CST are restricted by the profiles. DLM can set different profiles which are higher.

Customer services can only give a 1.1 mbps upload on around 18 mbps download profile.

DLM can give a 1.1 mbps upload on a 2 mbps download profile

See the difference?

It's the same with people syncing over 20 mbps.

Sky customer services cannot give speeds above 20 mbps. DLM can give speeds above 20 mbps.

True but they can still manually configure lines which are connected to the Globespan easynet equipment.

No idea why they thought capping upload on all profiles at 800k except 18/20 was a good idea tho!

So it's only the FULL LLU that has fixed profiles?
