Sky Install Success

Few problems with the ports not being active at first but a quest reset sorted that all in all everything good so far

only thing is i have an ECI modem

Router stats say 40/20 service??? How did you get your Max numbers ? From the OpenReach engineer?
Otherwise looks good - and I'm thinking Sky's 80/20 service might be the right option for me, when my cabinet is fitted.

The router stats say 40/2 otherwise the upstream would be 20000 Kbps not 2000 Kbps.

Your wireless channel is a little greedy IMO. I'll explain why...
Your wireless is on channel 4. Nothing wrong with it although it does overlap with 1 and 6 which most devices use.

You will be picking up interference from those on 1 and 6, and also interfering slightly with both main channels.

You'd be best to choose channels 1 or 6 or 11. Whichever ones least populated.

You probably already know this though!
If the routers set on AUTO mode and chose this channel I'd be shocked!

Also how did you get the router stats? Didn't realise that router had been hacked.

Doh!! Yes, I misread the extra 0

Ahh yeah spose you're right but channel 4 is clear most routers are channel 10-11

and no hack its just normal firmware from what i know.

but there seems to be a throughput problem

getting around 23mbps instead of 38-39

can't bring it up till 10days have passed.

and yes max rate was from the engineers tool.

It is very easy to assume that each of the 13 WIFI channels is totally seperate from the rest and, of course, if you were allocating the way WIFI works you wouldnt start off where we are now Wireless N makes things even worse because it grabs an extra 5 channels as well!

Best to use inSSIDer or similar to find the "best" channel to use to avoid other devices, fortunately "most" routers seem to come preconfigured to use channel 1 so never recommend your neighbours to change it

You say 4 is clear however 4 will be picking up interference from both 6 and 1 - which I bet are both not free. The channels literally overlap with one another.

I find this works out worse than using 1 or 6, even given that they probably have clients already on them.

Also to note the lower channels 1 - 6 are usually used for baby monitors, cordless telephones, wireless AV receivers and doorbells. All of these you cannot see on INSSIDER

Also is the throughput issues via ethernet too. If so, bummer!
