Re: Static IP and OpenDNS

I have the free account through dyndns. Just signed up for the free pro trial then cancelled. They do require a card but don't charge you anything.
I just manually enter my IP address every time it changes. I signed up with dyndns hoping that I could get an email notification when my IP changed, but can't see a way to do it.

Can be done, but some people are reluctant to hand out their credit details to companies they have no intention of giving money to. People have asked Sky to include more dynamic dns providers in their routers but nothing on the horizon at the moment.

But this is a bit OT as dynamic dns isn't the same as a static IP. Dynamic dns won't get around issues such as firewall access control rules needing one IP address that doesn't change (e.g. company VPN).

you can use 3rd party fibre router powered by billion or DD WRT with sky fibre.

Your IP won't change unless you turn everything off for a while, in the 3 months been with sky I had 4 IP address only.

with DD WRT you can then use almost any dynamic dns service and also opendns

The routers all support dyn dns services so there is a way round.

Although unfortunately Dyndns want your credit/debit card details these days before giving you a free account.

Try signing up via https://www.dlinkddns.com/
You should then find the account works on the normal dyndns.com site as dyndns powers the dlink service wink
