PPPoA has a 1500 byte MTU.

PPPoA has a 1500 byte MTU.

Good point! I was thinking PPPoE as used on FTTC :-/

By a sticky IP Address, you mean static?

Is this quite common? I ask because if it is likely to occur then it could save me some cash as I can cancel my DynDNS Account....

Sticky means it gives the same address most times. Static gives the same address every time.

No, other than possibly getting a "sticky" IP address which may or may not be of interest.

From a network operator point of view and all IP based networks are supposed to be cheaper to set up and easier to maintain if you believe the white papers published by the likes of Alcatel-Lucent.

Yes my Fibre Pro activated yesterday is MER. My ADSL2+ before it was also MER.

The only other ISP I've seen using it was BE on the Bonded Service, and who knows if that bodes well or not with the imminent merge.

Sky use MER for all fibre connections. It has far less overheads than PPPoE, as used by BT for example, which is quite CPU intensive by all accounts.
