what was removed in 2012.

are you one of those who looks at the marketed fetaures and turns a blind eye to feature cuts and regressions?

also since when is server 2012 a consumer desktop os?

microsoft's peak was windows 2000, XP was based on 2000 hence its success. Since then all downhill.

You clearly don't use much of it then - I wouldn't consider the insane number of improvements in Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 as them abandoning anything.

There is some lovely stuff in 2012, such as the improvements in Hyper-V, but the front end GUI is just horrible. I'm hoping with 8.1 release, the 2012 R2 will have a little sanity restored - but who needs a tablet GUI on a server when you might have 30 or more in a rack with a KVM ?

Microsofts Servers & Tools division (Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio etc) could be the only bit that makes money shortly !!
