But to be fair also 20-22mbps is not exactly slow..

The real problem is EO lines which are a long distance from the exchange, and EO lines stuck on IPstream Connect.

VDSL2 above 1.5km is hit and miss.

You missed out a very important option, for long EO line clusters the FTTC cab can be installed close to the cluster and the fibre run back to the exchange can be many many miles long. Cornwall is doing this for EO, and/or using FTTP.

Fibre to the DP (G.fast) I would not bother worrying people yet, as BT has talked about it, but more at the research and decade long time scale.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/guide/fibre-broadband.... has the VDSL2 distance guide on it.

depends on the ISP on someone like O2 yes with a tiny limit but on say Plusnet with unlimited - not so bad?

In the case of a long EO line, speeds can be pretty bad.

In the case of a short line on IPstream Connect, 8 meg is not so bad, but it's still up to 10 times slower than FTTC.

Well his stats give him a healthy connection whatever his distance which if his postcode is right is just around the corner form the exchange. around 100M as the crow flies.

Yes. I was referring to EO lines in general.
