...but one of my friends has told me that I'm not going to get as good a connection if I don't take Sky's line rental. Any truth in this?

The provision of the phone service has absolutely no impact on the "quality" of the BB service whether it is supplied by any phone supplier on the BT Wholesale network (including BT Retail, SKY etc) or SKY Full LLU.

I suspect your friend is confused with the difference between the BB supplied via BT Wholesale or LLU where it can make a difference. If you ended up on the SKY Broadband Connect service that would be dire. Since you have been moved from the O2 LLU service you WILL be on the SKY LLU service. That is as it should be. Don't panic. Many, many people (including me!) would not want to have their telephone supplied by a LLU provider so you have the best of both worlds and if you wish to move away from them in the future it is much easier.

I asked him for a bit more info, and he pointed me back towards https://help.bethere.co.uk/help/support/smpf_mpf

I'm not quite up to speed with my broadband jargon, but it does seem to suggest there are some differences between the two products.

Any idea if I'll see anything in practice?

Received the letter!! Move to Sky broadband unlimited pro in March for £5 per month for first 12 months, retain BT line, static IP and no minimum contract tie in. Reverts to £ 17.50 after 12 months as I have Sky TV.

In the event that I decide to move within the first 12 months will it be a simple case of asking for a MAC code or does being on Sky LLU involve other hoops to jump through?

How useful is Sky WiFi when on the move?

Thanks.

As long as your voice service remains with BTW (so not SKY full LLU) the MAC process remains appropriate.
