If it helps my adsl2 stats were.

DSL Line Speed

Up - 860 kbps

Down - 7709 kbps

Line Attenuation
Up - 24.4
Down - 47.0

SN Margin
Up - 11.6
Down - 7.5

Where I live they have all the cabinets in the same street near a main road. (really weird setup.)

Anyway, if there is nothing that can be done I'll suck it up and just be happy I'm not in some rural area with 2mb. Paying a lot of money for fibre which is slightly annoying, but I have noticed a benefit from having 2mb upload.

The wires in the back of the socket suggest that there might be an extension elsewhere or a junction box between where the line enters the house and the master.

The dangly filters wee OK for ADSL however most are not really up to the standard required for VDSL - they will work but might have an adverse effect at some point. A fixed faceplate on the master would tidy it up too.

I know it is bending "the rules", however can you carefully remove the next two screws and that part of the master without disturbing any wires. Then take a picture of what wires are connected where.

Good suggestion. Looking at the picture, there appears to be two individual cables entering the box. Also one is not of exterior quality, so does that not indicate that the incoming service has a junction box somewhere in the home?

Those are the incoming pair - so no extension from there. It probably goes all the way back to where the wire enters the property - do you know where that is? And is there a junction box?

The OPs latest post shows just a 3 pair internal cable. So, yes possibly a junction box somewhere.

I'll be honest I don't know what a junction box is or what it looks like, but I can follow the wire into the cupboard, which then goes into the bathroom (at which point I lose it). SO I went outside and took some pictures. I don't know if it's related to it or not.

Picture 2 suggests the cable that goes through the base of the window from is different to the cable from te socket. Can you have a look at the inside of the window and see if the cable looks the same or different to the one at the socket.

If they are different then somewhere, probably in the bathroom there will be a small rectangular or oval box about 2" long where they are joined.

All we are trying to do here is prove there is nothing in the house wiring - such as an unterminated extension or bad joint that is causing an issue.
