thought i'd update this - noise margin a while back was 6db - today it's 11db? going to leave router stats going again to monitor but would this indicate something screwing with my line?

anyhoo - a snippet:

Having many issues with ADSL Broadband in the past i have gained enough experience along with my networking expertise can try to diagnose your problem
A. it is the exchange resyncing the line because of a NOISE burst (hence noise margin change)
B. Router cannot handle the connection (cant see why not, But it can happen)
C. Your Phone may have rang? (if so, wiring/interference issue)
D. Change your router, it may not be able to handle your line (as above) or it may be faulty
E.The exchange does not agree with your line (Faulty equiptment in exchange)
F. Loose distribution wire (Fault on Line)
G. Someone switched something on and it is causing interference

the list is limitless,
but the first thing si would try is
listening for noise/crackling on phone line,
check filters for adsl and phone, change them if possible
be connected to the master socket (where possible)
change/try another router

and post back after these steps,

Hope ive helped
oh and btw
Happy Christmas smile

regarding your point:

B - router has handled the conncetion fine for years so why change now? usually IME, when you have too many connections it takes a while for it to fail over (like zone alarm firewall used to and you had to restart the program).
C - i have no phone plugged in, just a microfilter direct to the master socket and a 1foot cable to the router.
D - i have a spare but skys connectino won't work and would have to fork out £70 or so i think from sky for a new one which might make no diff at all frown
F - wouldn't this cause the connection to drop at random times too?

anyhoo, in the new year i'll buy a new microfilter from amazon, as well as a new rj11 (?) to connect to the router. i'll plug in a phone (will borrow one) to listen to the line quality.

tailing that, i think there was a way to extract information from the sky router to make others work but not 100% i have a sagem 2504 still.

thanks btw smile hope you had a good xmas

I had a router fall over. I blamed BT, I blamed the microfilter, I even blamed CS. As part of the sign up I'd been given a bog standard standalone ADSL modem. It was stashed away in a cupboard. Disconnected all my equipment and plugged in the modem on its own. No random disconnects at all, even days later.

Router was 3 years old. Bought a new one and no problems. Routers etc can take nearby lightning hits etc, some of which you might be blissfully unaware of.

Yeah its been good so far,
As said, routers can take random electricity spikes, shocks, surges etc. and it can cause it to frazzle something inside, it may be age and a component has or is giving up,
just try a cheap router (for experimenting) such as this (TPLINK ROUTER
worth trying, but when did the problems start? and how often is the router disconnecting/resyncing?

thanks, will have to try this at some point with my spare router. at the moment though it's not rebooting itself for some reason. i went into the mysky BB section and saw the manage my line thing but on enabling it's on 9Db. thing is, at times mines rebooted itself even though i've had 12-13Db so it doesn't make sense.

only other thing i've changed it so enable fastpath blush
