I thought the highlighted Icon was wireless.

Reran the test this morning again and it's the exact same ICON, which was using a USB C dongle.

I clicked on the ICON ad it says "Multi Connection"

The multi connection refers to using multiple threads/servers. It's possible to choose single before running the test.

Hi @Ahmedg,

You say that you have a USB-C dongle. Is it a wireless dongle or ethernet adapter? I have a USB 3.0 ethernet adapter that supports 10/100/1000 megabit ethernet. Is that similar to what you have? This is what people are asking you.

It looks like that is how the Speedtest.net website reports tests. I just did a test and it shows in the results screen with a Wi-Fi icon even though the page has no idea of how I am connected and I am cabled in.

OP, try the Speedtest app from the Windows store which will rule out any browser extension issues https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9NBLGGH4Z1...

Sorry should have been clearer.

It'ss plugged into the laptop via USB C, has a RJ45 port and I plug the ethernet into the port on the dongle and other end router.

Thanks tried to download it and after 3 minutes had managed 130kbs, but then suddenly went to downloaded.

Tried several speed tests and the first two tests were fine, changed the server and went back to the original and the speeds went from 420 to 14.49.

SKY has been in contact and they have found an issue and sending out a replacement ethernet cable, not sure this will fix it as already tried with several cables CAT5E and 6

It may be faulty, but lets assume it is okay. When the USB-C and Ethernet cables are plugged in, you should try disabling WiFi. On the top of the mac screen, click the WiFi icon and you should get a menu with a switch to turn off WiFi. Then try the test again, see if the icon changes.

On my friends MacBook Air the icon changes in the speedtest website or app when you do this.

Hi,

Disable it on the laptop?

It's permanently disabled, the only time I ever turn it on is when I am in the office. I have to use a VPN at home and when testing, I make sure I turn that off as well.

Tried the new cable and made no difference to speed or packet loss.

It is something local to me 100% not home setup as tested that as the only other thing is the Fibre but OR is saying that's all fine. I didn't delete the IP addresses I had before and they must have been reallocated as they all now show no packet loss.

It may be something SKY can't resolve. might have to live with it as a change of ISP made no difference.

Your sentence is in the past tense, if you 'have' changed provider and its made not difference then its either Openreach kit or you.

Yes, I did last month, I've tried to eliminate as many issues as I can at my end,

the packet loss is there even when the router has absolutely no devices connected to it.

The speed test I have run with nothing but the laptop connected to it. i can't do the ONT as I don't have anything with a built-in RJ45 and I can't add PPOE to my work laptop.

OR found no fault so as far as they are concerned its SKY or me
