I see we have some new members on here from Talk Talk so perhaps you could advise on how to get my speed up to the advertised 2Mps as opposed to the less than 1/2 meg I am currently getting . Since I posted this topic I have purchased a new dual core PC and its still slooooow !

You need to post your stats. See here http://kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm

"... I have purchased a new dual core PC and its still slooooow ! ..."

If you are using a router, your broadband download speed is hardly affected at all by the speed of your PC. For instance, I've got a Pentium 133MHz on my network (144MB RAM, 1995 vintage) which can download at full speed (970Kbps on my 1Meg link). It's pitifully slow in other departments, though.

The PC might make a difference with higher speed connections, but you are only asking about up to 2Meg.

Without your stats it is impossible to comment or offer advice on your broadband service. All modems contain stats; it is just a matter of getting them out.

OK and what does www.btwholesale.com/getbroadband say your line can have?

It looks like it may say a fixed speed 1Mbps or possibly 2Mbps service.

If the checker lists 1 or 2Mbps in the first paragraph then you should be able to pressure Talk Talk to regrade you to at least a faster fixed speed service - until they either unbundle your line or start deploying the Max service in greater quantities.

The speeds you getting are nothing to do with the PC, you appear to have a very good line, and once on a fully rate adaptive service should get speeds well in excess of 2Mbps
