My speed went up ...

[link to this post]

I noticed today that my download speed had gone from about 220kb/sec max (yesterday) to nearer 400 (this morning).

I checked my router stats page and it gives me the following,

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6859 kbps 205 kbps
Line Attenuation 31 db 8.5 db
Noise Margin 13 db 16 db

I dont recall getting any kind of letter saying our speeds would be increased. Is this the fastest we will get from the 8mbit service ?

Cheers,

Tony

Hi

Your downstream synch speed (the bit that currently shows 6859 kbps) could probably be increased by amending your Target Signal to Noise Ratio Margin to 6db.

Technical support can make this amendment for you - 0871 226 7146 is the telephone number, or you are more than welcome to send a message...

Thanks for your help.

It went from 4.8 to 6.3 after pm'ing you, but has now dropped back down to 4 ?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5321 kbps 332 kbps
Line Attenuation 31 db 8.5 db
Noise Margin 8 db 10 db

Any idea why ? Or is it just something to do with being the weekend ?

Hi,

Just connected this week to TT Broadband LLU. Stats from Speedtouch 330 modem are below (my Netgear router won't give stats)
Could my connection go faster if adjusted?

ReceiveAttenuation_dB= 36
ReceiveMargin_dB= 16
SendAttenuation_dB= 19
SendMargin_dB= 25
Layer1DownstreamMaxBitRate= 3840000
Layer1UpstreamMaxBitRate= 448000

Ask for your receive margin to be lowered, try 6dB, if your connection is too unstable at that ask for it to be increased to 9dB.

Your router will supply the necessary info. as well, have a read on http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm

Ok, so after contacting talktalk2ndline it went from 6859 up to 8123 Kbits/s then since sunday its dropped down to lower than when it went up, now at 5457.

Does anyone know why decreasing the "Target Signal to Noise Ratio Margin" increased my speed, for about 4 days, then dropped again ?

Ok, it could have been down to a faulty splitter. The line also started disconnecting whenever the phone rang in or out. Replaced the splitter and its stayed at 8123kbps
