no adsl /sync light on modem/router

[link to this post]

Hi I hope you guys can help. I have had broadband for many years now, firstly with AOL and for the last year TalkTalk. I have had absolutely no problems with either service until now. I have been using a Philips modem/router since December I have 2 desktops connected by ethernet and 1 laptop by wireless, all 3 are used heavily without problems until 2 days ago.

The router sync light is no longer lit and no connection to the internet is possible. I rang the 'help' line only to be told to check my connections, I have checked them and rechecked them over and over (at the end of the day it's not exactly rocket sience there's only a few wires and each one only fits into it's own socket!).I haven't made any changes to my phone system, I have 2 basic phones downstairs and 1 upstairs. I have bought a new Belkin G router which shows exactly the same problem.

I have tried connecting the modem to the main bt socket whilst unplugging everything else in the house which gives exactly the same result.

Two points of possible concern are, I have a very old incomming connection it's the very old sort of oval shaped box (as I said earlier I have been online with broadband for years though with no problems despite this). Also last week we lost our connection for about an hour, also the phoneline had no dial tone, I checked with a neigbour and hers was also down.

I'm sorry this was so long but I'm trying to fill in all the details now rather than answer queries. Please help as I have a house full of depressed kids!

Sounds like you have no ADSL on your line (possibly related to the voice problems you had last week).
Call your ISP and insist an engineer is called out.
