Finally, found respectable speeds when connected to the router via an ethernet cable, which according to the TalkTalk web site is the correct way to test one's speed, although generally their speed tester is significantly more optimistic than others. However, using the TalkTalk speed tester, have just recorded an amazing 0.037 Mbps download speed. I've posted this up on the TalkTalk members' forum. Thus, as to the external wiring, a member on that forum told me that the old wiring and joint boxes made little difference, and generally my speed tests seem to confirm that, with thinkbroadband speed tests giving me a max of around 6.5 Mbps, with the TalkTalk tester giving 6.9 most of the time. So, as far as the external wiring is concerned, I'm now just going to leave it be! Cheers,
Dick
