VPN on Talk Talk

[link to this post]

Does anyone know if, or have any experience of, use of a VPN connection is possible with the TT home ADSL service?

I've tried asking them, but Customer Service don't know at all and the 'Technical Support' line they sent me to don't actually understand what the question is about. Likewise one about permitted encryption methods too.

Since I was trying to sort out if TT is worth or suitable for signing up to, I doubt this result is a good indicator of things to come, if I do.

I believe that there is no reason why a VPN will not work on TT as it is just another ADSL network with no special settings. There is better support on TalkTalkMembers.com but you have to be a customer to participate. There have been a few questions here on VPNs before, which I thought got resolved, but I would suggest sending a pm to TALKTALK_SUPPORT or TalkTalkBoy who are TT staff.

Thanks for the reply. I did email TT Cust Service and they said that they could not advise on this question. They asked me to phone their Technical Support number, which required an account to access normally. I found a way of getting around that but ended up with, I guess, an Indian support lady who did not know what I was talking about and gave very ambiguous answers when I tried to explain. So I left believing that I had been fobbed off with an incorrect understanding - something I know friends have reported when they later find out that their beliefs are proved wrong, after they've taken on the contract. The website email system also requires an account too.

But I'll see what I can do with your suggestions.
