I have a new home

[link to this post]

Hi,

I've just moved into a brand new house. The phone line is all wired up, I think all thats needed is a master socket and activation at the exchange. BT where going to do this last week but didnt bother turning up, and didnt bother to let me know and have now given me a new appointment a week away!

I see from Samknows, I'm on the Hardwicke (SSHWK) exchange, which is Talk Talk LLU enabled. So I've been wondering about taking up this service.

Can I bypass BT and just go straight to TT to have my line ( and ADSL ) installed?

Not just yet, they can do home movers though (existing customers) but not new customers needing a line install. Should be possible later this year AFAIK though not much help to you.

i hope you are pushing BT for some compensation for dropping your appointment without notice.

You do realise that a new line is going to be 125, plus at least a 12 month contract from BT (70 charge if you leave within that time)?
Bear in mind also that although many other providers can install new lines almost all insist on a lengthy contract to counter precisely what you intend ie. change to another provider who won't/can't install new lines (The Post Office may be an exception).

Hmmmm, I'd not thought of that.

Do you have any idea what sort of compensation BT may offer under these circumstances?
