Problems after migration

[link to this post]

My parents recently moved from BT Line and Pipex broadband to TalkTalk for line rental/broadband. Since then they have been having problems.

I have had a look but can't see what is going wrong.

They had a wireless router before migration so are still using that. Talktalk user name and password were applied to that without a problem.

Email addresses were setup and I manually added an account to Outlook Express using mail.talktalk.net as the incoming mail server and smtp.talktalk.net as the outgoing mail server. When trying to send mails they are seeing problems. It successfully sent an email to my TalkTalk address and my Yahoo address, but most of the other contacts in the address book result in an error when trying to send, so they remain in the Outbox. The addresses are valid. Even if they weren't I'd expect the messages to make it out of the Outbox and to the server, before getting a mail delivery notification.

There are also problems with some webpages in that they just time out, e.g. mail.yahoo.com.

As a result they aren't very pleased as the service has been pretty poor. Can anybody suggest how these problems can be resolved?

The email is an on-going problem with spam filtering software and server overloading. Best to use a GoogleMail account or similar. You can always have it forwarded to TalkTalk email when they get it working properly.

Some routers are incompatible with TT MSANs and need a firmware upgrade.

Slow websites are usually an MTU issue (set for 1432 or 1400).

Try asking for help on the TalkTalk Members Forum

I found when I switched that I had problems acessing some sites. it was because I had previously specified manual DNS servers. As soon as I set my computer to get the DNS servers from the router (which in turn got the TT DNS) it all worked fine.
