£120 to leave TT in contract

[link to this post]

The cost to leave TT whilst in contract has gone up from £70 to the frankly ridiculous price of £120. This is beyond a joke, when I asked what the cost actually involved I got a load of tosh "set by TT" etc.

If you really want to join TT for a whole 18 months, think twice because that £120 could be even more next year. They want to trap all their customers.

My advice would be avoid TT.

At least justify the high cost, I'm near the exchange and tempted to sneak in and pull the wire out myself!

Where did you get this info from. I suspect you may have been misinformed. Have a look at this posting made today on the TT Forum. Its very clear as to the charges.

I phoned yesterday to terminate my contract and was told it would be £120. I phoned today to complain that their tarrif guide still states £70 and that according to UK consumer law they should honour that charge on the website OR change it to reflect the correct price.

I am angry because I phoned a few weeks ago to terminate my contract, but was offered a loyalty discount to stay and was NOT told at the time that there would be a 71% increase in the cost of terminating.

I would do a posting on the TT forum and ask about the costs. The telephone CS is absolute rubbish. The forum is so much better and things do seem to get done fairly quickly. Any particular reason for leaving?

I have done so here:

http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/sh...

What's with the phrase 'mis-informed', I call it lying. An online community exective is aware of the time/date I made the calls and is going to keep me updated.

I suspect she didn't get the memo that they have actually increased the cost to terminate a contract early. Either way, I have still left a complaint with Ofcom.

I have my reasons for leaving along with screwing up my direct debit, they can't even get this right is the final straw.

Totaly agree with what your saying , nearly all complaints are now about telephone support which is so easy to get around by using the forum .
I did not know about the £70 cancellation fee and always assumed that if in a 18 month contract you would have to pay up what ever was left .
I much prefer the idear of a fixed fee cancellation and think its a positive in TalkTalk favour .

I have studied Terms and condition and tarriff carefully, according to clause 10.8 I either pay £70 or remaining charge on account whichever is lower. This is not true, which is one reason I escelated it to Ofcom.

I have yet to have had an update on my forum post, that was 6 hours ago. It can't take that long to listen to 2 calls and verify the fee. I'm assuming that she wasn't aware that it had gone on and is now dreaming up a reason.

They still claim on their tarrif guide [Prices effective from 1st January 2009] that it is £70 and to quote:

"Under the Consumer Protection Act it is a criminal offence to give in the course of business any indication which is misleading as to the price of goods."

They have just posted a reply to you on the TT forum and you will see that the telephone CS were wrong. Personally I don't think that 6 hours is too bad to find the calls and listen to them, she is most proberly dealing with a few problems besides yours at the same time.

Looks like you've been misinformed. I've also not seen any notifications of the changes to T&Cs or proccesses.

Yep was lied to at least 3 times about it costing £120, not £70. They finally got it right and am now leaving altogether.
