Windows 98 & TalkTalk

Help!

I will be popping around to a friend's house tonight to help get their new TalkTalk internet connection up.

They have an old pc running Windows98. They have spoken to TalkTalk who say you need a minimum of Win2k to install the router using the supplied CD.

They have been supplied with an Echolife HG520b router.

Surely, I can TCP/IP or telnet to this router from the Win98 pc and configure without using the supplied CD? I imagine all I need is a username & password from TalkTalk to configure the router's connection to the telephone line and that's it?

Can anyone confirm?

The router may be preconfigured with username and password already, I'm not sure with that model, I received a pre-configured dlink.

As for the CD, don't if you can get away with it. Apparently it can cause a lot of bother from what I've read.

Win 98 works fine with TT; it's just that they won't support it like Micro$oft won't any more. I use Win ME without any problem. Just don't run the Connect & Go CD. The Win 98 machine will need an ethernet port.
