Slow throughput...

[link to this post]

I've posted this on talktalkmembers.com and they have the Networks team investigating it, but I'm wondering if anybody on here might have any ideas why it's happening.

Until about a month ago, i was getting full speeds all the time, now i know there can be congestion at peak times but now i can't get over 12mb, even at 4am in the morning.

The strangest part is, when i start a download on Usenet or do a speedtest the speed goes up to a peak then sort of drops back down, as if its being throttled or capped.

I've tried on Windows 7 PC, Macbook running Snow Leopard and a Windows 7 Laptop, tried both wireless and wired and same issues.

I have also tried changing router, same on DGN2000 and HG521.

I'm guessing by elimination that the issue is coming from TalkTalk's side, but has anyone else on TalkTalk ever got speeds no where near their sync?

I'm currently synced at 21,111kbps but i'd struggle to get 12meg on a speedtest, most resutls fall around 8 or 9meg. Before the issue i got 18/19meg on speedtests

Cheers

Ethernet cable or wireless

how are you connecting to your router ?

Have you tried both ?

what package are you on , Essentials or Pro ?

what does your router say about errors on the line ?

Tried Ethernet and Wirelress - Same issue

My main computer is connected via an Edimax Wireless N Card, never had issues before.

I'm on the Pro package.

I will check the router for errors when i am home in a while.

There are a few errors there. What happens if connected directly to the hidden test socket of the NTE5 (If available)?

It could be a routing problem or lack of capacity - have you checked your exchange status on the TTM site?

Status is fine, extra capacity was added 4th June and more on 21st July but its not showing as congested or limited availability.

Even if it was congested, i should get full speed in the middle of the night!

I've tried test socket, no change.

It does not sound like TalkTalk throttling , for the very reason you gave " even at 4am " there would be no reason to throttle at that time and as TalkTalk traffic shapping is active and only throttles what needs to be throttled at a given time .

Really sounds like a wireless issue , but if you have tried a wired connection I'm stumped . Your error count is not IMHO high enough to rob you of 50% of your through put

I don't mean they are purposely throttling me due to congestion etc, i mean something in their systems is preventing me from getting any more than what i'm getting.

It's 100% not a PC issue nor a wireless issue as i have ruled out both. Also changed microfilters, and changed routers.

The OCE's had a feeling it was maybe a QOS profile issue, but who knows.

I was getting 18meg speedtests almost constantly now i hit around 8 or 9 with a max of 12 frown
