Changing the users broadband profile-what does this mean?

[link to this post]

Hello all,

I'm a talktalk customer and am having issues with my broadband disconnecting probably at least once a day. Im using a netgerar dg834g router and decided to try using the d-link router that talktalk sent me, however with that router it disconnects all the time, so I'm going back to the netgear (though I would have thought it should have made no difference)

Talktalk reps talk about changing a customers connection profile in their replies to customers. What does this mean? Am I right in thinking that increasing or decreasing a profile can cause a decrease in download speed but could well lead to more stability on the line? Is it a wise thing to ask to get this done?

Thanks to anyone who cares to explain it to me.

Joe

changing the profile on your line usually mean they will increase the noise margin which should help reduce any drops on your connection but it will give you a lower download speed. They will most likely try a few changes to see what works best for your connection and try to find a border line of stability and performance.

Yes it is the only way to get it sorted, if you have a look at the TT forum you will see the OCE's do this regularly and in the majority of cases it fixes the problem, dont bother with phone support as it could take you ages to get this sorted, register and use the forum the OCE's will usually fix this the day after you post.

I see you have asked and Barney has answered. wink

If i were you i would go back and use "topic tools" (top right of screen) to close the thread, the thread will stilll be visible but no one can add to it.
The OCE's work on the oldest thread first on Monday, if you dont close it and someone adds to it it is bumps it to the back of the queue, as Barney has answered there is no point in leaving it open, the OCE's can still answer it. wink
