Hi moving to talk talk after sky said i have to wait 7 to 10 days for new router which i think is a joke, can anyone tell if i have done the right thing because on the main page of this site it says TalkTalk most complained about telecom provider in UK
That says it all!
1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU BB => 2010: Orange 19 Meg Tweaked / 16 Meg Untweaked LLU BB

TalkTalk are probably fine as long as you are a light user of the internet.

there package says unlimited and to be honest i do more uploading then downloading
It's not totally unlimited , as in sky unlimited , TalkTalk use traffic shaping .
Also worth pointing out , most of the complaints were over the acquisition of Tiscali and the mess they made of that but I imagine a fair few where about there shockingly bad telephone support .
Best way of dealing with TalkTalk is through there members forum , which works ok and to date has always managed to get faults fixed and billing errors corrected for my self and many others .
Personally I would stay with sky if you need a proper unlimited connection .

@woweebert thanks for the reply i don't really need unlimited as i hardly download mostly upload files for web design and stuff nothing really big.

It is unlimited with this
Talk Talks policy towards Fair Usage is that Customers should be able to use the Service in an appropriate manner to meet their needs. A very small number of Customers use an excessive amount of the network bandwidth at peak times, to the extent that it can impair the performance of others. We therefore have a fair usage policy, which is designed to ensure your Service is fast and reliable 24 hours a day. This only involves monitoring the amount Customers download and managing non-time critical traffic on our network, such as Bittorrent or other Peer-to-Peer sharing applications. If Customers usage is continually either excessive, unfair, inappropriate, affects other users enjoyment of our broadband Service, or is not consistent with the usage we would typically expect on the Customers current package, we reserve the right to upgrade customers to a package more suited for their usage or, in extreme cases, suspend or terminate their ability to access Talk Talk broadband. We also manage the use of file sharing applications as these services often involve huge files being uploaded and downloaded, which can cause network problems and for Customers Internet Service to be slower than normal. Currently, TalkTalk Customers have no restrictions on Bittorrent or other file sharing activity between midnight and 3pm. At peak times, however some TalkTalk Customers can still use those services but they may find Bittorrent or file sharing is a little slower as we limit the amount of this traffic to ensure we can maintain a high quality Internet service for all our Customers. However, all TalkTalk Customers have no restrictions on time-critical web traffic such as surfing, gaming, streaming content from applications like BBC iPlayer or using VOIP packages like Skype at any time.
What they dont say if they consider 80 gig to be fair usage my friend uses about 90 gig a month and when he was with them he had 2 letters basically saying keep going over 80 and well cut you off. He switch to sky and never looked back sky/Be are basicly they only true unlimited ADSL isps left without restriction

Don't worry mate you'll be fine...don't listen to the doom merchants! TalkTalk's LLU service is actually very good. I've been with them for about 8 months and i get line speeds 24/7 with not a single outage. Sure, their phone support isn't the best but stick to web forum support and you'll get top class support there. They only throttle P2P (and good on 'em!) and all other traffic (voip, web browsing, video streaming, gaming) runs at full speed 24/7 My pings are 10-15 ms. As for their FUP on the "unlimited" plus package, i believe its 100GB per month. My average usage per month is around 90GB and they haven't said a word to me. Go for it!

@baby_frogmella thanks 100gig is plenty i wont even need half of that

Yes, TalkTalk send you your username/password in the welcome pack after you sign up.
You are free to use any router you like

that's great news cant wait to move to them

Don't forget to register on the Talktalk members forums here after going live. You can then request things such as changing the downstream SNR (default is 12), switching to fastpath profile etc. Any problems registering on the forum, use this form to get in touch:

Can i ask what all this does please --> SNR (default is 12), switching to fastpath profile etc.
What is SNR Margin?
Once you go live with talktalk, wait 7-10 days and if you're not experiencing any problems then request your SNR to be brought down to 6db; this will increase your sync speed.
What is interleaved?
If you will be gaming then you will need very low ping times so you will need interleaving switched off (ie fastpath)...however if you're on a long-ish line then it would be wise to stay on interleaved for line stability.

also worth mentioning that as you with SKY LLU you will need a return to donor before TT can start there process.
It will take you 4-6 weeks to get fully connected with adsl, the process is terribly slow from one LLU to another.
Hi you have lost me a bit return what and talk talk told me 17 days
Just phoned talk talk and they told me it only takes up to 6 weeks if talk talk have not got there equipment in the bt exchange
Have been with TT for 18 months now and have had no downtime and 10/11MB download speeds constantly.
I had DLink router supplied which kept dropping this was replaced with a Huawei, but have bought a Linksys WAG120N because TT weren't yet supplying N serires routers.
I assume that you have Exchange checked Sam Knows that you will be full LLU with TT? I wouldn;t move if it is not their LLU kit - just mentioned because of the 6 week reference and no kit in exchange?
thanks for info this is what samknows says Talk Talk Enabled and LLU services:Yes ----and talk talk said they would be sending me a N series router
I would agree with all the other positive comments about the service, and the negative ones about phone support (with 1 exception when I used phone support and the person I spoke to was clear, understandable and seemed well informed!).
+1 to getting signed on with the members forum. While the members forum can be useful, I do see a lot of people frustrated for months with issues needing resolved so don't expect miracles (Not that I am in any way putting down the OCEs since they are, to an extent, limited in what they can and cannot do..)
I did not, and am still not, regretting my move to TalkTalk, AND have watched my call charges plummet as almost all my calls are now inclusive (wife uses skype to speak to her parents, brother and many of her friends in Germany)....
Thanks for all the replies. but after reading comments on talk talk forums and other forums i have decided not to switch to them and intact just phoned them but got told they department i need shuts at 6 so will call them back in the morning
Ah well, that's your loss. I'm sure if you could poll ALL TalkTalk users you would find the ones with problems are very much in the minority, but that's up to you.

Its your decision but to put things into perspective there is approximately 4.2 million customers if you add up all customers posting in the forum its a drop in the ocean, also a lot of the problems (dropped connections) are quickly sorted by a profile change.
As i said its your decision but i would hate to think you didn't sign up because you read a few hundred posts when TT has at least 4.2 million customers.

ok thanks i have not phoned yet as really not sure what to do will make my mind up today

Actually was expecting this out come , as soon as the new router arrived , you where never going to leave sky , as in my broadband working again " yipee " .
I still find keeping my broadband and phone separate from my sky tv subscription , means I get a much better deal from sky , in fact half price satellite tv , which is a saving of over £30 a month and TalkTalk essential package for fills my needs .
So to recap , sky complete package to include HD , broadband and phone under £50 a month .

Hi anyone know how long it takes for Talk Talk to send the router and welcome pack i go live soon and not had anything yet ?
You should receive your welcome pack within a week of signing up and your router a few days before activation date. Also once you go live if you call 08700 875562 free of charge from your landline, the computer will read out your username/password. Anyway the talktalk supplied router (Huwaei HG532) is nothing special, you're better off using your own router and flogging the talktalk router on fleabay
Thanks not had anything yet just phoned and they told me the router was sent out last friday ? but they said they will send another out and resend welcome pack its not looking good so far glad i have 30 days after going live to see what there like

Don't worry dude, once you've gone live you'll be fine

Ok mate try not to i tried my free wireless dongle i had from orange today it works great

I got the D-Link DSL-2680 recently as a replacement for my old router when it died., it does the job well.

Yes the Dlink is a decent router (broadcom chip based) and definitely worth keeping, talktalk will either send you the Huwaei (Infineon garbage) or Dlink on their Plus package.
Yes i went with the plus package but still not had my router and go live on the 18th

I have posted the question in the TT forum for you someone should answer soon.

Although I would have thought the customer service and billing section would have been more appropriate since the op does not have the router yet and does not have a connection and stability issue.
FWIW, I got my router well in advance of the "switch on" date. IIRC it was in its box for about 2 weeks.

Hi i have phoned them to tell them nothing as arrived and they told me they would send another out that was last week still nothing will wait until the 18th and see what happens

My TalkTalk supplied router is sitting next to my "proper" one. If you have a router that is ADSL 2+ capable then, IMO, I wouldn't use the TT one. It's a Toys 'r' Us special.....

You make a sweeping statement about the TT router being rubbish when you dont know which he will receive and i say mine is working fine and as good as the one i used before joining TT and you come back with an infantile comment, what's your problem?

Thats why you got your broadband for 7.50 (normal price15) if you have TV it knocks 2.50 off and sky talk knocks 5.00 off so 7.50 for having both
